What exactly is HUID coded jewellery?
It is a 6 digit Alphanumeric number hallmarked on every gold ornament that enables traceability of the ornament. The hallmarking consists of the BIS symbol, the purity and the caratage of the gold, details about the jewellery who hallmarked it and the HUID code. It is done in a Government certified BIS hallmarking unit and is an untouched by hand, automatic process.
Has the government made the HUID coding mandatory?
Yes it has. Though the hallmarking was introduced in 2021, it has been made mandatory now. At Jos Alukkas, from the moment the HUID coding was introduced, we began the process of coding our jewellery and today our ornaments and gold articles are 100% HUID coded.
Does everything in gold need the HUID code?
All jewellery and articles made of gold, except gold bars. Some Jadau, Kundan and polki jewellery have been exempt.
How is HUID advantageous to the customer?
The customer can verify the quality of the gold by downloading the BIS CARE app and typing the code in. This not only shows the purity of gold bought, but the jeweller, and place bought. Thus ensuring the value of gold remains timeless and worthy forever. HUID gold can be bought and sold all over the world as it defines a universal purity standard. Exchanging gold jewellery for gold jewellery can be at a fair price now. The quality of gold across the industry is raised. Investing in gold can now be done boldly and fearlessly. Especially in times of rising gold prices, it’s imperative that customers hold true, certifiable valued gold.
How can HUID hallmarking help the gold industry?
This standardisation opens out the world to Indian jewellers. When purity and quality is not in question, creativity takes centre stage and Indian goldsmiths are among the best in the world.
HUID IS TRULY A WIN WIN FOR JEWELLERS, CUSTOMERS AND THE GOVERNMENT.
