The Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) number is a six-digit alphanumeric code consisting of numbers and letters. HUID will be given to every piece of gold jewellery at the time of hallmarking, and it is unique for every piece of jewellery. According to the Department of Consumer Affairs website, the hallmark consists of 3 symbols which give you some information. In this, the first symbol is the BIS logo, the second symbol indicates purity and fineness and the third symbol is the HUID. Before buying any piece of gold jewellery you have to check for these three symbols.

There are six different gold hallmarks that are allowed in India by the BIS. They are 14 carats, 18 carats, 20 carats, 22 carats, 23 carats, and 24 carats. Whatever the karat may be, if it is gold jewellery that comes under any of these six hallmark categories, it should be HUID-hallmarked.

To verify the authenticity of the HUID code, go to ‘BIS Care Application', click on ‘Verify HUID’ and enter the 6-digit alphanumeric code. You will get the relevant details including purity, weight, name of the jeweller, etc.
It can be found along with the BIS Hallmark and purity of gold. There will be three markings on the jewellery. The first one will be the BIS hallmark, the second one will be the mark of gold purity, and the third 6-digit alphanumeric code will be HUID.
