Diamonds and classic jewellery that dazzled at Oscars 2016
The Academy Awards are watched every year not just for the winning moments, but also for the fabulous designs that grace the red carpet. Gowns, jewellery, clutches and shoes are all taken note of and rated to see who scored high on the fashion meter and whose Oscars outing was not as successful.
Oscars 2016 offered some interesting jewellery trends as the Hollywood stars put their best fashion foot forward. Here are some of the hits of the event.
Necklaces: Among necklaces, the stand out piece was the ‘Of-the-moment’ diamond choker worn by actress Olivia Wilde with a deep cut Valentino haute couture gown. The choker beautifully complimented her plunging neckline. Charlize Theron too went for a similar neckline, paired with a 48.8 “secret cluster” diamond necklace set in platinum by jewellery designer Harry Winston.
A mention also of actress Naomi Watts, who sparkled in a beautiful collar necklace studded with exquisite Bulgari diamonds. Bulgari was also the choice of comedian Tina Fey who was seen wearing a sapphire and diamond necklace.
Earrings: Statement earrings were one of the top jewellery trends of this year’s Oscars. Notable among these was the 42-carat classic 1963 Harry Winston hoop earrings worn by actress Kerry Washington. Rachel McAdams kept it simple, combining her silk emerald August Getty gown with shoulder-length diamond earrings. Actress Julianne Moore stood out with her 13-carat diamond and white gold Chopard ear pieces, which complimented her Chanel gown beautifully.
Cate Blanchett and Reese Witherspoon were a splendid sight in their Tiffany & Co jewellery. While Blanchett opted for drop earrings in platinum with marquise and round diamonds, Witherspoon was spotted wearing platinum earrings with pear-shaped and marquise diamonds. Titanic fame Kate Winslet was decked in Nirav Modi jewels including Luminance earrings, which have more than 100 carat of precious white diamonds.
Bracelets, cuffs and rings: Bracelets embedded with diamonds and precious stones were a popular pick. Blanchett’s Tiffany collection included a starfish cuff in platinum studded with round diamonds. A 2.30-carat round diamond and platinum ring completed the look. Actress Olivia Munn accessorised her orange gown with a serpent-shaped Eternity Band from Forevermark.
Among rings, diamonds were clear winners. A pear-shaped diamond ring set in 18k white gold, a diamond cocktail ring and a platinum ring with a 7.49-carat emerald cut tsavorite and diamonds were most complimented by fashion critics.
India had much to cheer at this year’s Oscars as Priyanka Chopra made her debut as a presenter. She wore a white sheer gown by Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad. Her choice of jewellery was much appreciated by fashion experts. Priced at nearly $ 8 million, the Bollywood actress adorned a front-back diamond earring set and multiple rings. The Lorriane Schwartz jewels included the 50-carat diamond earrings, a 22-carat diamond ring, a 10-carat diamond pinky ring and an 8-carat diamond bypass ring.
