All that glittered at Oscars 2015
Award nights are a time for Hollywood divas to showcase the brightest and best in trendsetting jewellery. Oscars 2015 was no different. There was enough glitter and glamour on display to keep the jewellery experts busy for months to come.
There was plenty of excitement over some of the neckpieces that came out of the vaults that evening. Scarlett Johanssondazzled the paparazzi with a green bib necklace, reportedly a Swarovski crystal embroidered neckpiece. Margot Robbie wore another stunner, a Van Cleef & Arpels “Zip Antique Colombine” necklace (with a fully functional zip!). It was a vintage 1930s piece set with emeralds, sapphires and diamonds and was, as she so eloquently put it, “worth more than her life”.The turquoise multi-row necklace (Tiffany & Co.) worn by Cate Blanchett perfectly offset her black outfitand Anna Kendrick made waves with a diamond collar that formed the neckline of her gown.
Ear cuffs were also a popular fashion trend for the evening. There was, of course, Scarlett Johansson who matched her eye-catching neckpiece with Piaget ear cuff studded with emeralds, diamonds and aquamarine.Chloe Grace Moretz followed this up with chunky diamond ear cuffs that sealed her look.
The other show-stoppers of the evening were Emma Stone’s splendid wrist cuffs in diamond by Tiffany and Gwenyth Paltrow’s large, ruby teardrop earrings. Julianne Moore’s spiral diamond earrings, Laura Dern’s zodiac pendant and Viola Davis’ V-necklace in pearls also caught the photographers’ fancy. Nicole Kidman was all aglow in diamonds worth more than $7 million– diamond earstuds, diamond bracelet and diamond rings.
Laura Dern matched her large neckpiece with a turquoise Bulgari ring, a special piece of jewellery designed to support the American Lung Association. This was in memory of the character she portrayed in ‘Wild’, who died of lung cancer. Not to be outdone with all that bling, Lupita Nyong’o hit the red in a spectacular white Calvin Klein gown embellished with 6,000 white pearls; a piece of jewellery all on its own! (In the latest twist, the dress costing $150,000 has been reported stolen, whisked right out of her hotel room in her absence.)
As usual, the stars found both bouquets and brickbats come their way from the fashion industry. But the general consensus in the fashion circles was that Oscars 2015 was the one of the best years for jewellery in recent times.
